ΔLΞC MONOPOLY talks about art and material values

In a conversation led by M{2e} co-director, Christopher Holmes Smith, ΔLΞC MONOPOLY shared how the deep impact of the Bernie Madoff Ponzi scheme scandal changed the trajectory of his career.

On Nov. 6, 2013, celebrated graffiti artist ΔLΞC MONOPOLY joined students in M{2e}'s COMM 454 - "Media, Money & Society" class for a deeply engaging discussion about how street art can reflect material values in a time of extreme wealth disparity and sluggish economic recovery. ΔLΞC MONOPOLY - who is fiercely protective of his identity - is best known for his mural work featuring Richie Rich, Disney's Uncle Scrooge, Rich "Uncle" Pennybags, a.k.a. Mr. Monopoly of board game fame, and other cartoon characters and public figures that exemplify extreme affluence. These pieces can be found in big cities around the world, from Los Angeles to Berlin, and increasingly through a network of high-profile art galleries. Ray Vanderbilt from lifestyle brand Crime By Design accompanied the artist for the visit. An in-depth interview with ΔLΞC MONOPOLY conducted by the PBS Newshour can be found here.
