Journalism professor Sandy Tolan  wrote a recent op-ed that appeared in multiple international outlets about the battle over West Bank land. "(W)hatever the Turks, Egyptians, or Americans do, whatever symbolic satisfaction the Palestinian Authority may get at the U.N., there’s always the Occupation and there -- take it from someone just back from a summer living in the West Bank -- Israel isn’t losing," he wrote. "It’s winning the battle, at least the one that means the most to Palestinians and Israelis, the one for control over every square foot of ground. Inch by inch, meter by meter, Israel's expansion project in the West Bank and Jerusalem is, in fact, gaining momentum, ensuring that the 'nation' that the U.N. might grant membership will be each day a little smaller, a little less viable, a little less there." His article ran on an international wire service called Tom Dispatch, and it has been picked up by Salon, CBSNews.com, multiple websites, and is scheduled to soon appear on Al Jazeera English. Tolan is a radio and print journalist who has reported from more than 30 countries during the last 28 years. He is the author of two books and has written for more than 40 newspapers and magazines, and produced hundreds of documentaries and features for NPR and Public Radio International. Since 1982 he has reported from American Indian country, along the U.S.-Mexico border, across New England and the American West, in Latin America, the Middle East, the Balkans, Eastern Europe, and South and East Asia. A central focus of his work has been the intersection of land conflicts, racial and ethnic identity, natural resources, and the global economy.
