On Dec. 30, The Dallas Morning News published a review written by journalism professor and director of the Center on Public Diplomacy Philip Seib about Norman Davies' Vanished Kingdoms -- The Rise and Fall of States and Nations. "History, thoughtfully related, offers a welcome breadth of perspective to those who feel that modern society requires them to exist solely in the moment," wrote Seib. Seib wrote that Davies' book "reminds his readers that 'students of history need to be constantly reminded of the transience of power, for transience is one of the fundamental characteristics both of the human condition and of the political order.'" Seib concludes by saying that Vanished Kingdoms allows readers to use evidence to reach their own verdicts. Read Seib's review here
