Neon Tommy reporters provide full coverage of Occupy LA eviction

A team of Neon Tommy reporters and editors worked past 2:30 a.m. to provide full coverage of the Occupy LA eviction. The Twitter feed of Senior News Editor and graduate student Benjamin Gottlieb was nationally celebrated as one of the best. Executive Editor and Annenberg fellow Mary Slosson, who reported, photographed and tweeted all night from the front lines, covered the event for Reuters. Undergrad Paresh Dave (B.A. Print and Digital Journalism '13) produced the top featured story on the Storify.com home page. Neon Tommy's Associate Director of Marketing, sophomore Nicole Stockdale, led a social media group of retweeters.

Other contributing editors include journalism professor Marc Cooper and graduate students Christine Detz, Jacob Chung, Dan Watson and Tracy Bloom. The Neon Tommy Twitter feed was commended and quoted on the air by KTTV. More than a half-dozen stories complete with accompanying Flickr slideshows were produced live and Neon Tommy's running blog led the site in traffic. Professor and Managing Editor of Annenberg Digital News Alan Mittelstaedt was also on the front lines "keeping an eye on the brood and the other on his Nikon view finder," Cooper said. "The next time someone asks who will cover City Hall in the digital age," Cooper said, "we can answer: Annenberg." Make sure to follow Neon Tommy's live blog and Twitter page as another reporting team prepares to go out on Nov. 30.
