Capturing the soul of South LA

On Saturday, Oct. 15, online South Los Angeles news source Intersections South LA and Annenberg Radio News invite attendees of the sixth annual Taste of Soul Los Angeles Family Festival to record interviews with their friends and family that will highlight the rich soul and vibrant stories of South Los Angeles residents.

Staff will be on hand at the Intersections booth to host the interviews and conversations and to help participants create meaningful dialogue for the recording of these oral histories.

These 15-minute interviews will appear on Intersections’ website and will be edited for broadcast on Annenberg Radio News, which airs on USC’s campus radio station KXSC 1560am and on www.annenbergradio.org.  CD recordings of the interviews will be provided to participants; they make a wonderful family memento.

Taste of Soul has been dubbed “Los Angeles’ largest street festival,” attracting more than 250,000 attendees each year. The festival celebrates South L.A.’s most “soulful” restaurants, entertainers, artists, businesses and organizations. The festival is open from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. and is located along Crenshaw Boulevard between Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Rodeo Road.

The Intersections South LA table will be located in front of Albertsons at 3901 Crenshaw Blvd, alongside the Crenshaw Digital Media Team, a group of Crenshaw High School students being trained by digital media educator Daphne Bradford.

Intersections South LA is a community news site serving the South Los Angeles area. The site takes an innovative approach to building dialogues between South LA residents and the journalists who cover their stories. Community members are encouraged to help shape local news content by authoring and submitting their own stories.

USC’s Annenberg Radio News station features the broadcasting and production talents of Annenberg's own journalism and communications students.  Situated on the USC campus, Annenberg Radio News covers issues of interest to the surrounding community and Los Angeles.
