MediaShift ran an op-ed about data security for journalists by journalism professor and Director of New Media Andrew Lih.
Lih wrote that journalists "operating in risky theaters or striving to be vigilant about their data" should be aware of and use security tools to protect themselves and their work. He detailed technologies that obscure and encrypt information and secure communication channels in the article.
NBC News also quoted Lih in an article about a study that found some Wikipedia articles too difficult for average searchers to understand.
Lih, author of The Wikipedia Revolution, pointed out the emphasis the site puts on the long-term rather than immediate value of its articles.
"The article may not be great at the time it's posted, but with more eyeballs and input, it gets better, more accurate and of higher quality," Lih said, adding that readability might go down as the article becomes more detailed and complex.
