USC Annenberg’s California HealthCare Foundation Center for Health Reporting released Tuesday the latest installment of “Ask Emily,” the bi-weekly column written by Senior Writer Emily Bazar that answers community questions about the Affordable Care Act known as Obamacare. The piece titled Medicare and the new health law: How it affects you covers how Medicare recipients are affected by Obamacare and the cost of purchasing personal health insurance. Emily detailed the specific changes for current Medicare recipients including the elimination of out-of-pocket costs for most preventative services including mammograms and annual wellness visits and increased costs for “higher-income” recipients. In the second part of the article, Emily described the price ranges and some details of plans under California’s new health insurance marketplace, called Covered California. The California HealthCare Foundation Center for Health Reporting reports and produces content on issues concerning California healthcare as it pertains to consumers and policymakers.
