Two writers for Neon Tommy, a digital news site housed at USC Annenberg, were recognized at the Los Angeles Press Club's Fifth Annual National Entertainment Journalism Awards on Sunday.

The students held their own against professionals from publications like the Los Angeles Times, The Hollywood Reporter, People Magazine and The Huffington Post.

Candice Aman, the site's senior arts editor, got third place in the print feature/series over 1,000 words category for her piece “The Origami Vinyl Effect: How Record Stores are Changing the Music Industry.” Allegra Tepper, a senior reporter, nabbed second place in the feature/series category with her story “Passion in Poverty: Festival For All Skid Row Artists.” In addition, Truthdig's Mel White won best critic for his book review “Jesus Was Lynched.”

Truthdig was founded by USC Annenberg professor Robert Scheer.
