Journalism professor Félix Gutiérrez received the National Association of Minority Media Executives 2007 Lifetime Achievement Award on March 29. The award is given to "media leaders whose ideas and accomplishments have advanced the cause of diversity in the media business."
The award was presented at NAMME's Celebration of Diversity awards banquet in Washington, D.C. The dinner is held in conjunction with the American Society of Newspaper Editors convention.
"Though I hope it's still a little early to wrap up whatever achievements I may have in my lifetime, I am very much humbled by the honor and inspired to continue to make whatever contributions I can to advancing diversity and mutual understanding across cultures in the newsroom and the classroom," Gutiérrez said of the honor.
