Join the USC U.S.-China Institute for a conversation with New York Times diplomatic correspondent Edward Wong about his book, At the Edge of Empire: A Family’s Reckoning with China. In this compelling narrative, Wong weaves his family’s history with the evolution of modern China. As the son of Chinese immigrants, he delves into his father’s past as a disillusioned soldier in Mao’s army who fled to Hong Kong. While serving as The New York Times’ Beijing bureau chief, Wong explores both his father’s journey and China’s rise under Xi Jinping.
