The talk, “From headlines to deadlines: Why journalists excel in product management,” explores the surprising alignment between journalism and product management.
Arielle Smith, an Annenberg alum, will share her journey from studying journalism to having a career in tech. Smith is now in Strategy at Disney Entertainment, driving alignment across Disney+, Hulu and ESPN Product, Engineering, and Design leadership to maintain centralized Product roadmap data and develop evaluation and intake processes.
Smith will highlight how skills like storytelling, audience insight, research, journalistic writing, and adaptability bridge these two fields. Students can also expect insights into how a communications degree equips them for diverse career paths, particularly in tech, where creativity and problem-solving are invaluable. This session will empower students to see beyond traditional roles, demonstrating how journalism skills can lead to impactful and innovative careers.
