Although treatments for substance use disorders are effective, most people with substance use disorders never obtain any form of treatment. This talk will describe how the field has progressed beyond screening, brief intervention, and referral to treatment (SBIRT) to modern models of care that proactively deliver evidence-based treatments within healthcare settings and that intensively refer patients to specialty care while considering social determinants of health. The presenter will describe two active NIDA-funded randomized controlled trials that involve the design and implementation of novel addiction treatments into general healthcare settings.
