Matthew K. Asada, a visiting fellow at the Annenberg Center on Public Diplomacy, will discuss how State Department employees organized and built a coalition to improve diversity and diplomatic readiness over the past decade to ensure that the United States could fully avail of its diverse diplomatic workforce.
For more than two decades, the Department of State has restricted employees from serving in certain countries based on their personal circumstances. These policies appeared to disparately impact Asian American employees, who were restricted from serving in several East Asian countries.
This event is sponsored by the DEIA Task Force.
