Why did you choose to attend Annenberg?
Annenberg has an amazing Public Relations program that allows me to explore the field of Public Relations through a multifaceted approach including hands on learning as well as a very enriching educational experience in the classroom. Annenberg reaches out to the individual needs of their students allowing them to excel in their field of choice as well as shows them the door to a wide array of opportunities that a degree in Annenberg opens to them.
Tell us about a great experience or opportunity you've had here at Annenberg?
As an Annenberg student, I have taken a class in the lecture hall as well as attended many out-of-class discussions. Annenberg always finds new and innovative ways to approaching things whether it be in the classroom or not, something that is coveted in Journalism and Communication as it is an ever-changing field of study. Their technologically advanced classrooms as well their excellent teaching staff combine their efforts to make the Annenberg experience one that is in the top of its field.
What's one thing at USC that no student should miss?
One thing that no USC Annenberg student should miss are all of the panels and discussions that Annenberg provides to its students. Annenberg sends out emails daily not only of recent job listings, but also provides students with information on workshops that will enhance their knowledge on the working world and expose them to the proper way in which to write a resume, cover letter, or how to successfully network. Not only do they teach you all of these things, but Annenberg also provides you with various opportunities to implement this skill set which is something that every student should take advantage of.
Another thing that no USC student in general should miss is the homecoming football game. Football games are generally about comradery but the homecoming game takes on a life of its own. It brings back students and for one day all generations of Trojans whether it be past or present come together to celebrate the amazing experiences that happen at USC. For some, they are reminiscing on the memories they had when they were students while others are creating memories for their own. Either way, the homecoming football game is a way to unite and build a sense of overwhelming Trojan pride. The success of our team may be unsteady but our Trojan spirit and pride never wavers.
What's your favorite spot on campus and why?
My favorite spot on campus is a small study room in the back left corner of Doheny. From that spot, I am able to witness some of the most beautiful spots on campus as well as reminisce. I feel so at peace and tranquil when I am in this spot and it is always reassuring to see all the smiling faces hanging out on McCarthy Quad whenever I look out the window. This spot is the perfect place to get work done or even to just relax. It allows you to take time and reflect on everything and anything. You are also sitting in such an architecturally beautiful place that you can’t help but smile yourself and think about how lucky you are to be a USC student and have the opportunity to take advantage of hidden gems such as that room.
What advice do you have for incoming students?
My advice for incoming students is to make the most of the time you have. When I first started USC, I would always think “I have plenty of time” but now that I have seen how fast my first year has gone, I have started to realize that my 4 years at USC could come to an end at the blink of an eye. In this way, I urge all incoming students to take advantage of everything that USC has to offer and try something you would never normally do, but might enjoy. Join the Quidditch team or face your fear of public speaking by joining a debate team. You might not like it, or you might love it but you never know if you never try. I have already let a year of my USC life pass me by and I am going to hold on to it for as long as I can and make the most of every moment. Neale Donald Walsch once said “Life begins at the end of your comfort zone.” As a student at USC, there is no telling where my comfort zone will take me but I can’t wait to find out.
