Four Annenberg doctoral students whose research was funded by a School of Communication Summer Research Fellowship in 2015 will be presenting their work at a major communication conference in a few months.
Students Perry Johnson, Kate Miltner, Courtney Cox, and Rogelio Lopez, who are all in the second year of their studies at Annenberg, used their funding for a study of the activist hashtag #ReclaimMLK, examining how contemporary activists use Twitter.
The study, titled "From Twitter to the Streets: A Mixed-Methods Study of Contemporary Activist Practices," has been accepted to the annual International Communication Association (ICA) conference, which will be held in early June in Fukuoka, Japan.
Several of the group's members plan to attend the conference and present their work. With feedback from the presentation at ICA, the group hopes to revise the paper before submitting it to journals for publication.
